Note: this drawing is intended to show the construction type to eliminate problems with shrinkage. All joints shown should be 'haunched'  especially where the top rails meet the legs.  Although lower rails do not need to be haunched it is prudent to 'cut them back' slightly to affect a neat joint and hide any 'blemishes'.   See the paper on M & T for full explanation.
